DON'T MOVE TO PHOENIX ARIZONA!
Watch the video HERE: https://youtu.be/IPGAbXIWtZk Phoenix AZ is located in Maricopa County and it is the fastest growing county according to the US census bureau. Maricopa saw a growth of over 86,000 people…that is an average of 291 people a DAY!! Why are so many people moving here?? We are known for our great weather, beautiful landscape, abundance of jobs and decent cost of living….but in this video I am going to talk about the 3 reasons why you might not want to move to Phoenix. The challenge we are finding is that Phoenix isnt what people are expecting. They have this thought in their head on what it will be like to live here and end up disappointed and frustrated. There is alot that I LOVE about living here in Phoenix. That is why we love it here so much. Watch my 5 reasons I moved to PHoenix video in the link below to see all the good about the Valley. .but today I am going to focus on the bad and the ugly. __________________________________ REASON 1: Scorpions And yes we have scorpions…my worse nightmare come true. I remember searching and searching before I moved here on what it was like to live with them. I was terrified. I still don’t like seeing them, they freak me out each time I do, but you do get use to knowing they are out there. Just like any pest in your current area there are things you can do to avoid an encounter with them and keep them out of your home. Eliminate standing water, they are attracted to it. Our pool toys sometimes puddle up then when we remove them later a scorpion is hidden underneath. Seal cracks around doors and windows - they can get through the smallest of spaces Clear away scrubs and trees from your home and don’t have stacked up firewood. Scorpions feed on crickets and other pests, if you hear them, then scorpions may be out there. So eliminate other pests. Did you know that scorpions glow in the dark? You can take a blacklight in your backyard at night and eliminate them when you can see them. This also helps stop them from getting into your home. There are certain parts of the valley that don’t have scorpions. Look at the scorpion migration path and you will find a map of where in Phoenix it is likely that you will have them. I had a friend of mine that never saw one in 30 years living here! If you don’t want to take care of them yourself you can work with a local exterminator to get them under control and keep them away from your home. Now scorpions were my #1 reason we took forever to move here. If you want to talk about what it is like to live with them, please reach out. You can find my contact info and link to may calendar in the description below. We wish we would have moved here sooner and I want that for you too! _______________________________ REASON 2: The Weather Arizona has sunshine over 300 days a year, but in June, July and August it is HOT!! I mean really really hot. What does it feel like? How do you handle it? Well I equate it too standing in front of a hot blow dryer. When the wind blows it is just super warm air blowing not cooling you off. If you have leather seats you can burn your legs! Also be careful when touching your steering wheel or seat belt buckle that is metal they will burn too! A little tip: Always park facing away from the sun and always carry a sun shade. This will help keep the heat directly off your dashboard and front seats. Always carry around a bottle of water with you. I was so worried before moving here that I would get stranded and die in the heat. Well bring water with you. Always, it is a habit of me and my family now since living here. We always each have a water bottle with us no matter where you go. Eye drops and chapstick - It is dry here! You will need both of these!! Your eyes can begin to itch and chapstick is a must! Be careful in flip flops - esp the young kiddos. Flipflops my favorite accessory here! But beware when walking into a store or restaurant when it is 110 don’t let it slip off. You will find yourself barefoot on the pavement! You will only do that one time and watch out for little ones walking in. They can accidentally do the same! This goes for your pets as well. Check the temps outside and be sure to put shoes on them or walk them super early in the morning. If the temps are in the 90s it is too hot for their paws! REASON 3: Transportation The primary way to travel here in Phoenix is by car. We do have a train down in central phoenix going out to east valley and bus transit, but driving your car is how a majority of people get around here. Now phoenix is not LA, but traffic during rush hour can be a pain. If you know when to stay off the roads it is easy to get around here. Adot did recently finish many freeway expansions to accommodate the work commutes. But it still can be stop and go during these times, so plan accordingly. Rush hour starts in the mornings around 6:30 or 7:00am lasting til 9 or 9:30. Commuting into Phoenix or Scottsdale from the outer suburbs during this time can be stop and go all the way to work. How can you get around this? See if you can work different hours than 8-5. Be on a different time schedule than everyone else. Or live opposite of traffic. Or if you can find a home close to work even better so you can stay off the freeways. Work from home, that is a win win. If you carpool there is a lane for you, take advantage! At night this same thing happens in the opposite direction. People are heading home back out of town. This starts around 2:30 or 3pm and goes until 6 or so. If you can be on the road by 2:30 or 3 you could avoid it. But otherwise wait til 6 or you will be stop and go all the way home. Now each freeway is not the same. Hwy coming into Phoenix from the outskirts are very busy. If you want to know more about this please reach out! My information is in the description below.
